Automobiles in German Town Discovered Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Authorities stated they were contacted by a man who found a vehicle in Hanau covered with reddish liquid

Around fifty automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.

Law enforcement say they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.

The substance had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they added.

Law enforcement then found many other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Officials say initial examinations suggest the liquid was likely human blood.

"Currently there is no lead as to its source; authorities are not yet informed of any injuries in connection with the incident," they commented.

Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the community for tips.

A senior political figure said the attack left him stunned and required to be resolved quickly.

"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he wrote on social media, referring to the murder of nine people by a gunman focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
